IUTF ANNUAL BLACK BELT GRADING

Congratulations to Ms Gerli Tull, Jenny Sheehan, Aoife O'Sullivan (Cahirciveen) and Feral Ashworth (Waterville) who were successful in their test for 1st degree black belt.
Grading Examiner, Master Dalton assisted by the panel of Mr Riordan V, Mr Fitzgibbon V And Mrs Dalton V put them through an intensive test covering the full IUTF Syllabus. Students were asked to perform all 9 Tul, Step Sparring, Free Sparring, Demonstrations of Sparring and Padwork drills, Fundamental exercises, Breaking, Self-defence and Theory. All performed magnificently and can be justly proud of their achievement.
CONNAGHT OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS

Special thanks to tournament organisers Mr. Fitzgibbon and Ms Connelly on an extremely well run event ensuring all divisions were completed by 3.15pm.

MASTER JOSE MAIDANA SEMINAR
NEWCASTLE WEST, MARCH 2008
Master Jose Maidana returned to Ireland to conduct a series of seminars throughout the country. Such was the effect of his last visit in October 2006 the IUTF have since completely revised the grading syllabus to include techniques learned from Master Maidana. The success of our competitors at last years World Championships was in no small way due to incorporating Master Maidana's training methods.
These seminars have become hugely popular among our members with full attendance at each venue. At the Newcastle West Seminar, Master Maidana led the students through footwork drills followed by adding hand and foot techniques to these drills. He then moved on to applying these techniques on kick shields before allowing everyone to practice with sparring equipment on.
MUNSTER OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Annual IUTF Munster Open championships were held on Sunday February 17th at Mercy Mounthawk Secondary School, Tralee. This year over 230 competitors from clubs throughout the Country took part. It was great to welcome new members of ITF Ireland - Pulse Taekwon-do - from Waterford, under Mr Ambrose Murphy, who were competing for the first time at these championships. Students can now look forward to the Connaght Open Championships which will be held in Galway on April 13th.
2nd ANNUAL SOUTH KERRY FRIENDSHIP TOURNAMENT

Well done to all who took part and made the second running of this annual tournament such a huge success. Students had the opportunity to compete at both patterns and sparring with the patterns division this year being run on a round by round basis. With 8 per division this meant the eventual winner would have to perform 3 times in front of the judges. Sparring divisions were split by age and level of experience. Gold, Silver, Bronze and runners up medals were presented to all competitors at the end of each section.
Special thanks to all our black belts (Mr Buckley, Mr Moloney, Ms O'Sullivan, Mr O'Callaghan, Mr Larkin snr, Mr O'Connor, Ms Ashworth, Ms McCarthy, Ms McElligott, Mr Spence, Ms Curran, Mr Larkin jnr and Mr Tierney) for a great job refereeing and judging, and to Cahirciveen and Waterville club members for their help in ensuring the smooth running of each ring.
